Bead making

So the plan of action is on track and I am done with PDP for the hand in. (Except emails suck so I will need to wait until Thursday to see if my stuff is okay -_- le sigh)

For my protest brief I am continuing with the crane making

I am still looking at having them represent the effects of war, and I still need to some research into some of these. I was thinking of looking at the effects of things like gas, and then damaging these parts of the crane. (eg lungs)

For my integrated project I started making some paper beads using a guide I found online. Some of these tests turned out okay, and gave a similar effect that I was looking for.

ye olde beadmaking kit

The only problem  with these is getting clear images and text into these, and they also do not appear smooth.
I did try out some tube beads, I think these might be a bit better since it gives me a chance to put images and writing on them and they will appear clearer.

Anywho, that's it for just now,

Some final ideas

Just a quick update here folks.

So I thought that I would post some of my ideas for final pieces for my projects on here before, I forget about them.

For my integrated project I have two ideas that I am going to investigate. One of them is to create a booklet inspired from the booklets I received when going through the sacraments in primary school
and illustrating my journey of leaving my Catholic faith.

I also thought of making a set of rosary beads, with each decade and bead made to represent a certain part of my life. I was going to make the set unfinished with one decade missing, and leave two separate decades at the side. The two ones at the side I would make to represent where I could go - either me continuing to live without Catholicism or going back to the church.

For my protest brief I was working with the imagery of the crane, and thought about using the crane to represent the innocent lives lost due to war, and designing them to look like certain effects from war, e.g. gun shot wounds, burned etc

So that's all I've got for you just now

It's a Solar Eclipse!!!

Just a quick little update with the photos I took during the eclipse.
Basically I spent the whole morning being hella excited, with me checking where the sun was on my bus journey into college. My dad also gave me the glass from his welding mask so that I could watch it. It was really cool and I got some pretty awesome photos from it.

The plan of action

So I printed off loads of photos for the who am I brief - so many that the printer was actually not willing to cooperate and just flat out refused, but I got there eventually.

I also set out a course of action for the week to get those sketchbooks done and out of the way. However my new plan is to finish off all my PDP stuff, so that I can totally focus on my studio brief. Although I did make some head way with my integrated project, as I talked with one of my lecturers about some of my ideas, and I now have the confidence to go ahead with them, so I am really itching to get my teeth into getting some of that stuff done, but I am trying to be strict with myself and get PDP done. Arrrgh I just want to do everything at the moment, which makes a change from my usual cba self.
I also got some ideas for a final piece for my protest brief.

I will go into more detail about these in a later post when I have developed them a little further. The sort of general idea for this is to have the crane represent innocent lives lost during war and conflict.

For PDP I set out a plan of action to get it done by the start of next week, so far I have stuck to it, as the goals I should have achieved by now were getting the kiosk and poster finished.
As an alternative to the statement of assessment, we have to make a poster, kiosk presentation and a prezzi presentation. Here is what I did for the poster:

And here's a cheeky wee screenshot of my kiosk:

Also on Friday I got my presentation feedback, and it was pretty positive, the only thing being that I was a little nervous. So I now feel really positive about going on to do my essay and I think I know now what direction to take it.

So it has been a good week for me this week, it's just gonna take me to get my arse into gear and get stuff done and stick to my plans.

That's all for now,
Until next time,

Reliving the 70's

Presentations due this week - and cue the panic.

After some hard graft, and listening to some old albums, I finished everything for my presentation and I am quite happy with it. It's on album covers and band t shirts and how the t shirt has sort of replaced the album cover today.
For this I got to relive some of the 60's and 70's and also my fourteen year old self that really wanted to wear a Ramones t shirt, but didn't want to be one of those people that don't listen to the band but wear the t shirt. So I downloaded their greatest hits and pretended to myself that I liked them so that I could buy a t shirt. 2009 was a hard year for me.
Any way the presentation went well except that I accidentally said factory records instead of joy division, and was kinda a bit stuttery after that. I think if I practice my presentation more, hopefully I don't need to change much, I should be okay.

For my protest work I started making cranes as they are a symbol of pece so I was going to use them somehow for my final. Here are some examples of what I have done:

I have done some drawings for my integrated project:

The plan for next week is to get these first two sketchbooks finished and get onto the second one, meaning that research is completely over and done with and I can get onto developing my ideas.

Anyways
Until next time,

Make love not war.

Man it's so hard to write down stuff, over than I googled some shit, at this point in the brief.

For the who am I brief, I started work on a timeline for the full thing using some photographs of me.

Then for protest I think I want to focus more on the scale of the loss of lives and their sacrifice. With this in mind I painted a poppy, and let the red paint spill down, to resemble blood. I then splashed some more across the painting, paying more attention to the bottom part of the picture.

I think that this worked well and achieved what I was looking for, as I think the vibrancy of the red highlights the violence and gore that comes with war.

Until next time-

Back to college!!!!

So I'm back at college now and ready to throw everything I got at these last few briefs.
I took some photos of some of the things that I have kept from my Catholic days for some installation ideas.
I also wrote down some info in my sketchbook. I think I'm getting to the end of the research process in this project, and once I finish all the pages that I have started in my sketchbook, I will have finished my first one. I kind of like how this has turned out as this means that I will have one sketchbook dedicated to solid research.

For protest I think I need to hurry up and finish the research part of the brief and get on to some experimentation. Arggghh...

It's kind of been hard to keep on top of all this stuff, because of London and the fact I have the cold again, but hopefully I manage to stay on top of it.

Lets stay positive,
