Life Update!

So, where have I been?

Well when I stopped posting I was up to my eyeballs in dissertation work, which was as you can imagine verrrrry time and energy consuming. So everything else kind of took a back seat, but all that hard work and stress was worth it in the end because... I got a first! I'm so happy as I put in a LOT of work into it and I'm glad I got a grade I can be really proud of. 

Anyway since then I've celebrated by chilling and going on a few holidays and enjoying the summer. Besides my part time job I volunteer at a couple of places now, a small gallery and at an art group, both in Glasgow. I've revamped my website to fit more with my professional art image and branding, and I think my Blogger page is next, just so everything is consistent. I'm now working towards setting up an etsy store to sell drawings and also looking at a masters for next year. So writing up C.V.s, proposals and personal statements is what I have to look forward to the next couple months. 

Art wise I've been practising and playing about with photography as I've been taking one photo a day for the first few months and plan to print them and stick them into a sort of scrap/sketchbook thing. I've also been working on a watercolour/ drawing for a present and I think I might play about with this style to sell on Etsy.

I'm also working on building up concept, workshop and artist folios. This is to help me with research for further study and my goal of working in community art. I also plan to write up my artist folio on this blog and also include some exhibitions that I've attended reviews. 

So I'm looking forward to what the rest of this year might bring - so watch this space for what I'm working on :D

And the consistent blogging begins

So my plan is to update every week from now on, I'm trying to be more organised and consistent throughout all of my social media type accounts to give me at least some sort of online presence. I have started to update my instagram more regularly now and seem to be in a bit of a routine with it now.

Summer has been far more busy than I had anticipated. I've barely had a moment to myself since I started college, and even when I didn't have anything on - I still had to redo my room and gut out three years worth of crap.

However a couple of weeks ago I did help out at a summer school ran by my college. This was an amazing experience and has given me a great boost in my confidence in my abilities. It also helped me to fully establish that this type of work is something that I definitely want to do in the future.

I've also began doing some basic research into what I want to do for fourth year but this hasn't really fully taken off and I've just been doing bits and pieces (although I did buy a lever arch folder and dividers so I feel more prepared). I'm hoping to really get started with this over the next couple of weeks so I have more of a fully flourished idea of what I want to do by the time I start uni.

In terms of practical work I haven't done much, it's really only been a couple of drawings. One of which is a tattoo design I'm thinking about and another was mostly for fun/ am planning on trying out a cyanotype material piece with.

Investigatory Walk 5

Investigatory Walk 5

Date: 09/03/2016

Where: Larbert (River Carron)

Duration: 2 hours

Purpose

This walk was to try and leave my ogham mark alongside the banks of the river and collect some items and get photographs.

Details

I got my dad to drive me up to the River Carron as he would know the best and safest places for me to go and get photographs, and we also took the dog. We then walked up the bank as far as we could go and then turned back on ourselves. This was probably the most enjoyable walk so far, as there was a lot of climbing and exploring some of the rocks and trees.

Success of the Trip

I think this trip was quite successful as I got to experiment with different ways of putting down my marks, and I found some different materials and objects that I could use. I also got some good pictures of the Carron itself that I was thinking of using as prints.

Additional Notes

·         If I was to do this again at a river I didn’t know, I would need to be extra careful around rocks as it is easy to slip on places even if you know them really well.

Research Week!

So seeing as this is the first week there's not much to report here except that I'm doing some researchy things and doing some mind maps in my sketchbook :D So I'm basically keeping on just keeping on right now.

The things that I have researched so far is some stuff on the runistic Irish language of Ogham that my lecturer suggested that I look at, and so far I have found it really interesting and am thinking about adding a bit of this into my work. I've also looked into the ways that people try to get noticed online through social media, looking at this I had a thought of editing photos etc to the tips that I have found online, for example apparently lighter pictures on Instagram get the most likes.

So anyway like I said not much to talk about here, but here's some of the pages in my sketchbook that I've finished so far :)

Colours colours everywhere

So I am going along with the idea of colour and emotion. I did some work in my sketchbook just playing around with this idea and not really thinking of where it could go. However over the past couple of days I have been thinking about a couple of routes for my final piece to go down.

Idea 1:

So looking at the idea of ephemeral I thought about somehow using the paint cards that you get from hardware stores when buying paints.

So I went to B&Q and took a selection of them and also the catalogue of the paints.

 Idea 2:

I wont go into too much detail here, but basically I had a bit of an emotional breakdown one night this week and started crying. After I was quite finished with that I was going to go downstairs to make dinner. So I went to the mirror to make sure that I looked somewhat presentable, and my mascara had ran down all over my face. Bingo! Inspiration from crappy places. So what I'm thinking of maybe doing is different coloured make-up/ mascara/ eyeliner or something of the sort in different colours to try and associate colour and emotion etc.
