Life Update!

So, where have I been?

Well when I stopped posting I was up to my eyeballs in dissertation work, which was as you can imagine verrrrry time and energy consuming. So everything else kind of took a back seat, but all that hard work and stress was worth it in the end because... I got a first! I'm so happy as I put in a LOT of work into it and I'm glad I got a grade I can be really proud of. 

Anyway since then I've celebrated by chilling and going on a few holidays and enjoying the summer. Besides my part time job I volunteer at a couple of places now, a small gallery and at an art group, both in Glasgow. I've revamped my website to fit more with my professional art image and branding, and I think my Blogger page is next, just so everything is consistent. I'm now working towards setting up an etsy store to sell drawings and also looking at a masters for next year. So writing up C.V.s, proposals and personal statements is what I have to look forward to the next couple months. 

Art wise I've been practising and playing about with photography as I've been taking one photo a day for the first few months and plan to print them and stick them into a sort of scrap/sketchbook thing. I've also been working on a watercolour/ drawing for a present and I think I might play about with this style to sell on Etsy.

I'm also working on building up concept, workshop and artist folios. This is to help me with research for further study and my goal of working in community art. I also plan to write up my artist folio on this blog and also include some exhibitions that I've attended reviews. 

So I'm looking forward to what the rest of this year might bring - so watch this space for what I'm working on :D

Its been a while...

So I sort of abandoned this around Easter time I think because college work was piling on and I had to sort out my priorities and unfortunately I had to put this blog aside. However I am planning on updating this at least throughout my honours year and maybe even further.

Over the next few weeks I'm going to post updates on how my final exhibition turned out and what I'm currently working on for y next year. I'm also going to continue with my artist research that i started for my final project so stay tuned for that.

So I will see you around this was just a quick update to get me back on track :)

The Research File Begins

So this week I've really got my head down ad have began researching stuff, and printing stuff an highlighting stuff. Exciting I know.

The next couple of posts are gonna have a similar story as I am going to get all necessary research done in the first month I have for this project so that I have a good foundation to base the rest of Studio Practice 2 on.

So the bulk of my research has been about the ideas about legacy and how and why we want to be remembered. I have also been looking at the idea of narcissism and the human ego.

Chapter 3 - The Box

So after my maquette didn't work I had the idea of making my piece more interactive. So I then set about the design and began to thin about how it would look.

I realised that if I wanted it to be interactive I would need to have some sort of storage for my slides to be displayed on and so tat people could easily put them back so that the slides themselves could be rearranged. I also changed my earlier design of the box so that instead of sliding the slides into the top of the box, you could slide them into the side to make them more easily accessible to more people.

For the storage for the slides I decided to go with a shelf as I thought that this would be the easiest and quickest to make. This also makes the slides displayed more openly so that the viewer can look through them and remove and put in slides more easily.

The box construction wasn't overly complicated as I used a bought photo frame from Matalan (£5) as the face of the box and added on an extension using timber that my dad had in the shed. The slots for the slides were made from dowling and gave room for 5 slides so that there was an adequate number of slides that could be viewed at the one time and the box wasn't too bulky. I also had to add a sort of floor to the bottom of the inside so that the slides were centred.

Pause button please

So when looking at my work rota for next week, I realised I was on holiday, which may seem like a good thing. But that means that next week is the start of May which for some reason I failed to realise and so now the panic is setting in with such vengeance.

So I'm still sticking to my plan of action so far, and I hope to actually get started on my finals in the next few days. So there's nothing too exciting as I have just been planning out what is actually going on my finals.

This is just a quick update so I can get my stuff gutted completely, I'll keep you posted on where my stuff s at next week.
